Happy Money

“Happy Money” is a book written by Ken Honda that explores the relationship between money and happiness. The book suggests that having a positive attitude towards money and approaching it with gratitude and mindfulness can lead to a more fulfilling and joyful life. Honda emphasizes the importance of spending money in ways that align with our values and bring us joy, rather than simply accumulating wealth for its own sake. The book provides practical advice on how to cultivate a healthy relationship with money, including tips on budgeting, saving, and investing. Ultimately, “Happy Money” encourages readers to rethink their approach to finances and view money as a tool for creating a more meaningful and satisfying life.

Ken Honda argues that there are two kinds of money: Happy Money and Unhappy Money. Happy money is the kind that a ten-year old boy uses to buy flowers for him mom on Mother’s Day. There are so many ways regular old money can become Happy Money:

  • helping a struggling family member our of a bind
  • sending a few dollars to those affected by a hurricane
  • raising money by selling cookies for a homeless shelter
  • investing in a business or community project
  • receiving money for work or services from satisfied clients

Unhappy Money: is the kind of money you use begrudgingly pay your rent, bills, and taxes.

Money circulated in frustration, anger, sadness, and despair is Unhappy Money. This kind of money makes people stressed, desparate, aggravated, depressed, and sometimes violent.
